BMS Communication Protocol Integration
The challenge
In June 2026, a client contacted Arab Spec IT regarding a communication compatibility issue during the integration of equipment with their existing Building Management System (BMS).
The supplier-delivered DC PCU was designed to communicate using a TCP/IP-based protocol, while the client’s existing BMS infrastructure was using MS/TP communication.
Due to the difference in communication protocols, direct integration between the supplied equipment and the existing BMS was not possible.
Our approach
The Arab Spec engineering team reviewed the existing BMS communication setup, the supplied equipment, and the required integration.
After a technical assessment, our engineers identified a suitable solution using a BASRT-B (BASrouter) gateway/router to bridge the communication between the two systems.
The solution was configured to establish reliable communication between the TCP/IP side and the existing MS/TP network.
Implementation and testing
Our engineering team carried out the required configuration and integration, followed by communication testing at the site.
The connection was successfully established, and communication between the systems was verified.
The result
Successful integration without replacing the existing BMS infrastructure or the newly supplied equipment.
This project demonstrates how the right technical assessment and protocol gateway can resolve compatibility challenges between different building automation systems while making use of the client’s existing infrastructure.
